The Campus
The Open Science Festival 2025 will take place on the Campus of the University of Vienna.
The history of the campus dates back to the 18th century, when Emperor Joseph II had the Vienna Poorhouse converted into the General Hospital. The 96,000 square metre site became the property of the University of Vienna in 1988 through a donation from the City of Vienna. Today, students, staff, Viennese residents, and visitors find oases of relaxation in the green courtyards, opportunities to encounter art and culture, local amenities, and culinary delights.
The official address of the campus is Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Vienna – however, there are entrances and passageways from various sides.
Orientation at the Campus
There are large orientation maps at each entrance. The Hörsaalzentrum/lecture hall centre (registration, catering, lecture hall C1, seminar room 3) is located in courtyard 2, while the Aula and the seminar rooms 1 and 2 are located in courtyard 1.rientation map by our illustrator Lana Lauren, available for printing as a PDF.
Travelling to and in Vienna
Travelling to Vienna
Vienna is easy to reach by both train and plane. From the major railway stations such as Hauptbahnhof, Wien-Meidling, Westbahnhof and Wien Mitte-Landstraße, it takes around half an hour to get to the campus. From Vienna Airport, you should plan around 45 to 60 minutes (consider when buying a ticket that the airport is outside the city limits).
Travelling to Campus by public transport
The Campus can be reached fast and easily with public transport. The nearest stations are:
- "Lazarettgasse" (tram line 5) - 3 minutes' walk
- "Lange Gasse" (tram lines 5, 43, and 44) - 3 minutes' walk
- "Skodagasse" (bus line 13A) - 6 minutes' walk
- "Schwarzspanierstraße" (tram lines 37, 38, 40, 41, and 42) -7 minutes' walk
- "Schottentor" (underground line U2, tram lines D, 1, 2, 71, bus line 40A) - 15 minutes' walk
You find information about public transport with Wiener Linien, including details on accessible mobility and ticket recommendations for guests in Vienna.

Travelling to Campus by bicycle
Vienna offers a bike sharing service, WienMobil Rad. In the official Vienna city map, you can find information about the bike infrastructure. You can select the relevant details under "Karteninhalt" → "Radverkehr".
Bicycle racks are available around the campus, and a self-service bike repair station is located in Court 2.
Travelling to Campus by car
We don't recommend travelling by car. However, a paid parking garage is located directly beside the Campus. Throughout the city, short-term paid parking zones apply on weekdays, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Public parking spaces require payment, and parking is limited to two hours.
For information on accessible parking, visit the official Vienna city map and select "Karteninhalt" → "Parken" → "Behindertenparkplätze".
