 Food

  • Will there be vegetarian and vegan options? Yes. Our Catering ist organic and vegetarian.
  • Where will the Festival Dinner take place? Habibi & Hawara, Platz der sozialen Sicherheit / Kundmanngasse 21/27, 1030 Wien, U3/4A/74A Rochusgasse
  • What does the Festival Dinner cost? 60 EUR

 Internationality

  • Is the Open Science Festival a purely Austrian or an international event? It is an international event. The Open Science Festival is based on a concept from the Netherlands. Previous German-language festivals have been held in Hanover, Cologne and Mainz. This year, most of the programme is in English. We currently have registrations from 15 countries.

 Invitation

  • I need an official invitation that confirms my participation for local authorities / my employer. How does this work? Please send us an email at osfestival2025.ub@univie.ac.at. Our congress service will provide an invitation.

 Lightning Talks

Call für Posters und Lightning Talks (closed)

  • How long is a Lightning Talk? You have five minutes.
  • Can I show slides? Yes, up to five. Please upload them to out cloud by 4 September as a PDF file with the format lastname_shorttitle.pdf so that we can prepare everything. Link comes via email.
  • Will the slides be published before/after the festival? We cordially invite you to publish the slides and other conference material in our Zenodo community.

 Online / Streaming

  • Can I participate online? No, the festival is on-site only. The talks will not be recorded, but we invite all speakers and presenters to upload their material to a Zenodo community. We also welcome posting about the festival on social media #osfestival2025.

 Orientation

Plan des Campus

  • How do I get around on Campus? This Plan of university facilities (sorry, online only available in German) gives an overview about the campus and the location of the Hörsaalzentrum. There are large orientation plans in German and English at every entrance to the Campus. The lecture hall and the seminar rooms are in Court 2, the Aula is in Court 1.

 Posters

Call for Posters and Lightning Talks (closed)

  • Was my poster talk accepted? You will be informed in week 34 at the latest. 
  • Which size should the posters be? A0 - portrait format.
  • When can I hang up my poster? Posters can be hung up from Monday from 8 o'clock and should be applied at the latest before the poster session that starts at 4:45 pm. Please bring your printed posters and hang it up yourself where you like. 
  • Could you print my poster for me? No, but we have recommendations for printshops in close proximity to the Campus.
  • Will the abstracts for the posters and lightning talks be published on the website? No.
  • Will the posters be published after the festival? We invite you to publish your posters and other conference material in our Zenodo community.
  • How do the poster presentations work? A small number of speakers will have the opportunity to give a short pitch before the session begins. Places for this have been allocated by lottery. All others will present their posters directly in conversation with visitors.
  • How long can my poster pitch be? 2 minutes with 3 slides.

 Registration / fees

Registration

  • How long can I register? Registration was open until August 31. 
  • How can I pay the registration fee? In the online registration system, you can pay with credit card (American Express, Mastercard, Visa with 3D Secure). Should you need an invoice instead, please use the second link on the registration page and make sure your invoice is paid in due time before the festival.
  • How much does a ticket cost? There are two tiers: regular 170 EUR and student (BA, MA, PhD, data steward certificate course, pupils/school students) 50 EUR. This includes the whole programme and catering during coffee breaks and lunch. The festival dinner on Monday is not included, it's 60 EUR.
  • I will present a poster or lightning talk. Does that mean I don't have to pay the fee? No, sorry.

Venue

 Wardrobe

  • Where can I put my coats/luggage? There are clothes racks (not guarded) and lockers with a 2 EUR coin deposit. Please take larger bags and suitcases with you into the lecture halls/seminar rooms.

 Weather

  • How will the weather be in Vienna? You can find current weather and a forecast for the next days on the weather page of the Austrian broadcasting corporation ORF. The most relevant weather station is Wien-Innere Stadt.

 What happened so far

 WLAN

  • Is there free WLAN? On Campus, we provide eduroam. You will receive the login for a WLAN guest account when checking in. There is also a hotspot by the City of Vienna free WLAN (StadtWien-PublicWLAN).

 Zenodo

We were able to take over the Zenodo-Community from the Festival in 2022 - please add your posters and other conference material at https://zenodo.org/communities/osf2022de/.
